Top 3 CRAZY Headlines of the Week

AI-powered EDGE Dance Animator Applies Generative AI to Choreography

Stanford University researchers have developed a generative AI model that can choreograph human dance animation to match any piece of music. It’s called Editable Dance GEneration (EDGE).

“EDGE shows that AI-enabled characters can bring a level of musicality and artistry to dance animation that was not possible before,” says Karen Liu, a professor of computer science who led a team that included two student collaborators, Jonathan Tseng and Rodrigo Castellon, in her lab.

The researchers believe that the tool will help choreographers design sequences and communicate their ideas to live dancers by visualizing 3D dance sequences. Key to the program’s advanced capabilities is editability. Liu imagines that EDGE could be used to create computer-animated dance sequences by allowing animators to intuitively edit any parts of dance motion.

AI-generated spam is on its way to your inbox?

Now, the arms race between spam blockers and spam senders is about to escalate with the emergence of a new weapon: generative artificial intelligence. With recent advances in AI made famous by ChatGPT, spammers could have new tools to evade filters, grab people’s attention and convince them to click, buy or give up personal information.

Multiple ways to use the technology have already emerged, showcasing the technology’s ability to quickly adapt to, and learn about, individuals. For example, LLMs can write full emails in your writing style, given only a few examples of how you write. And there’s the classic example – now over a decade old – of Target figuring out a customer was pregnant before her father knew.

Spammers and marketers alike would benefit from being able to predict more about individuals with less data. Given your LinkedIn page, a few posts and a profile image or two, LLM-armed spammers might make reasonably accurate guesses about your political leanings, marital status or life priorities.

GCC Countries Look To AI To Build A New Kind Of Workforce

The November 2022 release of ChatGPT by Silicon Valley-based start-up OpenAI unleashed a wave of excitement and concern surrounding the potential of generative AI to transform intellectual work. The tool is built on a large language model, trained on a massive amount of written data to generate human-like responses to prompts. ChatGPT has since proven capable of writing essays, screenplays and poetry, as well as passing some written exams.

The chatbot’s capabilities and surge in popularity sparked fears of plagiarism and cheating from educators and administrators. Schools in New York and universities in Australia, France, India and the US have banned the use of ChatGPT, while other educational institutions are working to redesign assessments to discourage the use of generative AI.

A number of GCC countries, however, are tapping into generative AI technology as part of their broader AI strategies.

As the region’s economies look to diversify beyond hydrocarbons revenue, such technology could serve the twin goals of improving education outcomes for the current generation of students and training a qualified workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.

Of course, there are many artists who feel that AI is going to be a tough competition.

But then again, there are artists who believe AI can be more of an ally than a competition if mankind and technology work together.

Art is aspiring to reach new heights. The choice, here, is all yours, whether you desire to stay rooted to traditions or want to be a part of a technologically advanced generation! 😸

So lifelike, it caught my eye
I want to take a bite, it's true
