Scientists use AI to locate planet outside our solar system

A bunch of scientists from the University of Georgia have created a new method for discovering and categorising new worlds that are far away from Earth. They have encountered an exoplanet using machine learning, a wing of artificial intelligence (AI).

The recent examination showed that AI can accurately catch the presence of the exoplanet by examining protoplanetary disks, the gas around newly created stars. The newly issued results symbolise a first step towards employing machine learning to recognise previously bypassed exoplanets.

Lead author of the study Jason Terry said in a message: "We confirmed the planet using traditional techniques, but our models directed us to run those simulations and showed us exactly where the planet might be.

"When we applied our models to a set of older observations, they identified a disk that wasn't known to have a planet despite having already been analyzed. Like previous discoveries, we ran simulations of the disk and found that a planet could re-create the observation."

AI to defeat cancer? Doctors create AI tool that can detect disease

An artificial intelligence (AI) model has been created by scientists, doctors and researchers which can identify cancer accurately, marking a developmental stage which can speed up the diagnosis of the fatal disease and also fast-track treatment given to the patients.

Experts from Royal Marsden NHS foundation trust along with Imperial College London and the Institute of Cancer Research, London designed the AI tool which can identify if abnormal growths seen on a person's CT scans are cancerous.

As per the study, the performance of the algorithm has been more efficient and effective compared to the current methods. The research's findings were published in the eBioMedicine journal of the Lancet.

“In the future, we hope it will improve early detection and potentially make cancer treatment more successful by highlighting high-risk patients and fast-tracking them to earlier intervention,” stated Dr Benjamin Hunter, a clinical research fellow at Imperial and a clinical oncology registrar who works at the Royal Marsden.

AI startup Runway launches app to bring users video-to-video generative AI

Runway, an AI startup that helped develop the AI image generator Stable Diffusion, launched its first mobile app yesterday to give users access to Gen-1, its video-to-video generative AI model. The app is currently only available on iOS devices.

With the new app, users will be able to record a video from their phones and generate an AI video in minutes. They can also transform any existing video in their library by using text prompts, images or style presets.

Users can select from Runway’s list of presets like “Cloudscape,” or transform their video to look like it’s a claymation, charcoal sketch, watercolor art, paper origami and more. They can also upload an image or type an idea into the text box.

The app will then generate four previews for users to select from. Once they select which one they like the most, it will take a few minutes to produce the final product.
